AXIOM

One dedicated machine in a house, running persistent game worlds for a small group of friends. Not a business, and not open to the public.

The machine

Bought and built for this, rather than rented by the month. Everything runs on one box, on hardware that is not shared with anybody.

Why it works this way

Dedicated, not rented

Rented game servers charge per game, per month, and give you a slice of a machine somebody else is also using. This is one box that runs everything at once, and the only thing competing for it is another world you also wanted.

Worlds that persist

Nothing is wiped between sessions and nothing is torn down when the last player logs out. A world you left in the middle of is exactly where you left it, whether that was yesterday or in March.

Small on purpose

Built for a group of friends, sized for a group of friends. No queues, no strangers, no moderation problem to solve, and nobody to please but the people already playing.

Nothing is monetised

No subscriptions, no donations, no shop, no cosmetics for sale. It costs what the electricity costs and that is somebody's hobby budget, not a revenue model.

Getting in

There is no sign-up form

Access is by invitation, and it is handled by a person rather than a page. If you know Steven, ask him. If you do not, this is not really the sort of thing you can join, and that is by design rather than by accident.

Accounts are created by hand, one at a time. Everything you need to actually play is handed over privately once you are in.
